FMR Magazine

FMR
“The most beautiful magazine in the world”

It was in 1982 that Franco Maria Ricci launched FMR magazine. He wanted to show art as it had never been seen before. His distinct and original choices, the elegant graphic presentation, the learning and depth of the essays and literary excerpts made his FMR the most widely circulated fine art magazine in the world.

FMR. The Return.

Franco Maria Ricci Editore
The new FMR will be true to its graphic and artistic approach: FMR doesn’t teach art history but wants its readers to love art as much as we do, illuminating their tastes and enhancing their gift of sight. Every issue contains the seeds of a flourishing love of the visual. A complete etiquette of proper graphic presentation, a verdant garden of new knowledge and curiosity, an elevated typographic elegance, and heavy, fine paper will make each issue something unique, an object of pride for any collector. A centerpiece of each season, it will publish four times a year, spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

The contents

Franco Maria Ricci Editore
The new FMR will navigate through borderless space and time of art, architecture, design. Each new surprise, every visual adventure and beguiling discovery will be a stimulus for the imagination and the mind.

The texts

Franco Maria Ricci Editore
Ut pictura poesis, “as in poetry, so in painting,” wrote Horace. Great writers and scholars
brought gleam and luster to the escutcheon of the first FMR. The new FMR has ambitions of its own: to preserve that tradition, uniting the seductive gleam of art with the engaging depth of intelligent writing.

The pictures

Franco Maria Ricci Editore
The new FMR will preserve the traditional quality of the images, by entrusting the execution to great photographers. After painstaking series of press proofs, the photograph gleams against fifth-ink black pages, just as the darkness in a theater highlights the pictures on a silver screen or a spotlit stage.

The history

Franco Maria Ricci Editore
The first FMR had an amazing success, there were French and Spanish editions; its triumphant arrival in the United States met with acclaim. Franco Maria Ricci abandoned the venture in the early 2000s, after 163 issues, with the sale of the FMR brand, so that he could devote his time to building the Labirinto della Masone. In the last years of his life, however, Ricci obstinately nurtured his dream of  restarting the publication, a dream that came true only after his passing in September 2020. Indeed, in December 2020 his publishing house reacquired the FMR brand. The first issue of FMR’s second season will be released in December 2021, to coincide with the winter solstice.
