The subject of this volume with a foreword by renowned architect Paolo Portoghesi, Wendingen (“Upheaval”, literally “turns”) was an iconic 20th-century Dutch art and architecture magazine.
The 116 booklets of the Wendingen magazine, edited by Hendrikus Theodorus Wijdeveld, were published in Amsterdam between 1918 and 1931. A variety of elements that were ultra-modern at the time came together with others inspired by strong ties with late 19th-century Symbolism in the orderly warehouses of its volumes – a record of a hospitable state of the art foreign to any sectarianism.
