The volume brings together the portraits created by Tullio Pericoli for the 1992-1993 edition of La Biblioteca di Babele, accompanied by biographical and bibliographical notes for each author in the series.
In drawing the portraits of the writers published in La Biblioteca di Babele, Tullio Pericoli filters their likenesses through the irony of a great artist, ultimately giving rise to an entirely new pictorial genre – the literary portrait. This book collects them in a gallery of authors selected by Borges, each accompanied by a biographical and bibliographical note carefully curated by editor Gianni Guadalupi. As such, the volume serves as a valuable and necessary appendix to the series. It opens with a text by Franco Maria Ricci, sharing the story of his encounter and enduring friendship with Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges.
