Napoleone in Italia

Negli acquarelli di Giuseppe Pietro Bagetti e nelle cronache di Stendhal e di Adolphe Thiers

Xavier Salmon
2001 / 288 PAGES
This volume illustrates the episodes of the memorable 1796-97 and 1800 Napoleonic campaigns in Italy, annotated by a forgotten text by Stendhal and by Adolphe Thiers’ History of the Consulate and the Empire.
An exquisite draughtsman, Giuseppe Pietro Bagetti gave voice to landscape painting with great sensitivity. Between the 18th and 19th centuries, he painted the vedute and battles (mainly commissioned by the Napoleonic army) which, with their delicate colours, made him famous both in Italy and in France. The volume reproduces 96 stunning watercolours by this great artist, painted with the meticulousness of a miniaturist and the skill of a military historian.
