Luigi Serafini

From Serafini to Luigi. The egg, the skeleton, the rainbow

Texts by Pietro Mercogliano, Edoardo Pepino
2025 / 112 PAGES. Language: English/Italian
Featuring a text by Pietro Mercogliano and a vast iconographic display, the volume follows the creative journey of Luigi Serafini, a multifaceted and unpredictable artist, from the publication of the Codex Seraphinianus until today. It will be published together with the exhibition of the same name held at the Labirinto della Masone.
Lavishly illustrated with Serafini’s multifaceted paintings and sculptures, the book is structured in three chapters, forming a “reverse” biography of the artist through both well-known and previously unseen works. As Mercogliano guides readers through time and space, he reaffirms the artist’s ever-surprising and multifaceted creative journey, capturing the essence of his surreal and brilliant universe. The book thus unfolds as a web of cross-references, illusions, ironic and self-ironic nods, mental labyrinths, flashes of brilliance and forgetfulness, glances and winks, leaps and excavations, dazzling visions –all expressed as much through words as through images. The introduction, by Edoardo Pepino, director of the Labirinto della Masone, focuses on the connection between Serafini and Franco Maria Ricci, the first publisher of his most renowned work, the Codex Seraphinianus.
