The book aims to document, through texts and images, the long and troubled events that involved the important Complex of the Pilotta in Parma.
Conceived at the behest of Duke Ottavio Farnese with the aim of obtaining a connecting gallery between the Ducal Palace and the Sforza Fortress, the Palazzo della Pilotta has experienced complex and troubled vicissitudes, following from time to time the new projects and needs of the Dukes of Parma and historical events. The volume offers readers several essays that recount and follow the path that led the Complesso della Pilotta to its contemporary conformation: its construction, its iconography and the institutions it houses are the subject of the studies of the various authors, who are accompanied by photographs by Giovanni Ricci.
