Ventagli della collezione Cesari

Texts by Giovanna Ciaraldi Bilotta, Annamaria Fanello Arena. Introduction by Paolo Peri
1999 / 132 PAGES. Language: italian/english/french
This volume presents the extensive collection belonging to Stefania Cesari, who has been collecting fans since 1975, in particular valuable specimens embellished with the most varied types of European lace.
In his introduction to the book, Paolo Peri gives us a historical-artistic overview of fans, the subject of one of Stefania Cesari’s collections. The fan, in fact, has been a fundamental accessory of women’s clothing since the Renaissance, but its origins date back as far as ancient Greece. Starting from these premises, Peri traces the stages in the history of this elegant object, in the various European courts and throughout the centuries, following their formal and technical evolution. Photographs of fans from Rita Paesani’s Cesari collection follow, accompanied by descriptive tables at the end of the book.
