Galleria Nazionale di Parma. L’Ottocento e il Novecento

Catalogo delle opere. L'Ottocento e il Novecento

VV. AA. Curated by Lucia Fornari Schianchi. Introduction by Franco Maria Ricci
2001 / 316 PAGES. Language: Italian
The fifth catalogue raisonné of the Galleria Nazionale di Parma collections, edited like the previous ones by Lucia Fornari Schianchi, concludes the impressive work of cataloguing the picture gallery with the last two centuries of art history.
The 19th and 20th centuries have long been two little-known and little-studied centuries in the artistic history of the city of Parma, which was marked, like the rest of Europe, by the transition from Neoclassicism to Romanticism during the 19th century, and then maintained its position as an important cultural centre throughout the 20th century, seeing the work of important figures such as Amedeo Bocchi, Latino Barilli and Carlo Mattioli. Similarly to the first four volumes of the series, Lucia Fornari Schianchi contributes with an introductory essay that clarifies the historical context and thanks to which readers can interpret the artistic changes that affected Parma’s artistic production in the last two centuries. The texts about artworks by scholars precede an index of the complete works in all five volumes by author and inventory number.
