Battistero di Parma. Tomo II

La decorazione pittorica

Text by Jacques Le Goff, Véronique Rouchon Mouilleron, Enrica Pagella, Massimo Ferretti, Bruno Zanardi. Introduction by Luciano Silingardi
1993 / 272 PAGES. Language: Italian
This second volume dedicated to the Baptistery of Parma following its lengthy restoration, analyses the monument’s pictorial decoration through its images and texts.
Following the layout of the first tome of this diptych dedicated to the Baptistery of Parma, the volume opens with an introduction by Jacques Le Goff that, with its almost lyrical register, celebrates its history and the functions that this important monument has held over the centuries. This is followed by a description of the paintings divided into two parts, one dealing with the 13th-century paintings, edited by Véronique Rouchon Mouilleron and Enrica Pagella, and one concerning the 14th-century frescoes, edited by Massimo Ferretti. Like the first tome, the volume is accompanied by an extensive repertoire of photographs and a final chapter offering readers a detailed analysis of the restoration work carried out.
