The book collects the lectures of the first year of the Franco Maria Ricci Chair at the University of Parma. The lectures are focused on the figure of the typographer Giovan Battista Bodoni and held by Professor Pedro Manuel Cátedra of the University of Salamanca, Academician of Spain, Ricci’s friend and his accomplice in Bodoni’s passion.
Born in 2023 from an initiative of the City of Parma and the Department of Humanities, Social and Cultural Enterprises of the University itself, and enthusiastically welcomed by the Franco Maria Ricci Foundation, the Chair offers students, researchers and scholars, and the wider urban public a series of lectures given by a leading personality of Italian and international culture, and inspired by one of the many aspects of the multifaceted world of Franco Maria Ricci, publisher, designer, art and book collector, and builder of labyrinths. Pedro Cátedra's lecture series collected here presents the figure of Bodoni, tracing the traits and works of the Piedmontese typographer to testify the great influence he exerted over the centuries in the graphic, typographic and artistic spheres in general.
