Aspetta un po’ che la bambina cresca

Mauro Senesi. Introduction by Giovanni Mariotti
1974 / 144 PAGES. Language: Italian
The Tuscan landscape, a sports car, an old carriage that seems to hold the sweet, indecent ghost of the past: here are the elements Mauro Senesi plays with, as one plays in a dream through contrasting images, in this light-hearted novel.
Aspetta un po’ che la bambina cresca (“Wait for the Child to Grow Up”) is a novel of decoration and arabesque. Objects are varied and combined, thus explored in their symbolic meaning against which Senesi is, however, careful not to overstep: the carriage remains a carriage as it might appear on a sign (or on a book cover), the car remains a car, and so on. The value of such an experiment lies in a consistency that Senesi never goes back on; the result is a brief, broadly indefinable work, the only label that might suit it being the rather unusual and hypothetical one of neo-liberty literature.
